CLEVELAND, Ohio — A tragic early-morning incident on Cleveland’s east side has claimed the life of 34-year-old Zerick Stewart, a Cleveland man who was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds inside an overturned vehicle.

The heartbreaking incident unfolded near E. 114th Street and Union Avenue during the early hours of Wednesday morning. According to Cleveland police, officers were called to the area at approximately 3:45 a.m. following a report of shots fired.

When officers arrived, they discovered a vehicle that had overturned. Inside the vehicle were three occupants, including Stewart and two women.

Officers immediately rushed to Stewart’s aid after finding him with multiple gunshot wounds. They rendered first aid and attempted to help him while waiting for emergency medical personnel to arrive. Despite those efforts, EMS later pronounced Stewart dead at the scene.

The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner identified the deceased as Zerick Stewart, 34, of Cleveland.

His death has left another family facing the devastating reality of losing someone unexpectedly and under tragic circumstances. At only 34 years old, Stewart’s life was cut short, leaving behind memories that his loved ones will now have to hold onto as they navigate the pain of his passing.

The crash also injured one of the other occupants. Police said a 47-year-old woman sustained injuries as a result of the crash and was last reported to be in stable condition. Another occupant, a 46-year-old woman, was not injured.

As investigators began examining the circumstances surrounding the shooting and crash, police determined through a preliminary investigation that the vehicle involved had been reported stolen out of Warrensville Heights.

The discovery of the stolen vehicle adds another troubling element to an already heartbreaking case. Investigators are now working to determine what happened before the vehicle overturned, how the shooting occurred, and who may have been responsible for Stewart’s death.

At this time, police have not announced a suspect or suspects in connection with the shooting.
