FOREST GROVE, Ore. — With heavy hearts, five lives are being remembered following a devastating tragedy at a property outside Forest Grove that claimed the lives of Rowan Karla Kimsey, 60; Mary Elizabeth Kimsey, 85; Linsey Mae Haraldsen, 26; Alvin Raymond Chu, 27; and Stella Jade Kimsey, 26. Benjamin Parker, 36, whom authorities identified as the suspected killer, was later found dead in Enumclaw, Washington.

The five victims were discovered deceased over the weekend after law enforcement officers responded to a vehicle fire on a property west of Portland. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office later confirmed the identities of those who lost their lives, bringing heartbreaking clarity to a tragedy that has left families, friends and the surrounding community grieving.

Among those killed was Rowan Karla Kimsey, 60, who owned the property and lived there. Her death represents the loss of a woman whose home and property became the scene of an unimaginable tragedy.

Also among the victims was Mary Elizabeth Kimsey, 85, Rowan’s mother, who was from Portland. At 85 years old, Mary had lived a long life filled with memories, relationships and experiences that will now be treasured by the family and friends she leaves behind.

The tragedy also claimed the lives of Linsey Mae Haraldsen, 26, and Alvin Raymond Chu, 27, a Portland couple. Their lives were taken together in circumstances that have shocked those who knew them.

The fifth victim was Stella Jade Kimsey, 26, who was identified as Mary’s granddaughter and Linsey’s best friend. Stella lived at the property with her boyfriend, Benjamin Parker, 36, whom authorities identified as the suspected killer.

For those mourning Stella, the pain is made even more difficult by the circumstances surrounding her death. A young woman with friendships, family connections and a future ahead of her was suddenly taken from the people who loved her.

The tragedy was discovered early Saturday morning after deputies were called at approximately 5:27 a.m. to assist Forest Grove Fire & Rescue, which had responded to a report of a vehicle fire outside Forest Grove.

What firefighters encountered was far more devastating than an ordinary vehicle fire. Human remains were discovered, prompting firefighters to contact law enforcement. Investigators then began examining the property and ultimately determined that five people and multiple domesticated animals had died.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office later confirmed that next of kin for all five victims had been notified.

The tragedy also resulted in the deaths of animals on the property. Authorities said two cats and two dogs were found dead. Another cat was discovered injured and was transported to a veterinarian for treatment, but the animal later had to be euthanized because of the severity of its injuries. Livestock that remained on the property was subsequently rehomed.

Benjamin Parker, 36, was later found dead in Enumclaw, Washington, near Seattle, on Sunday, according to authorities. Investigators have not publicly identified a motive for the killings. Because Parker was found dead, he will not face prosecution, but authorities continue working to establish the full circumstances of the case.

Washington County Sheriff Caprice Massey described the investigation as an extraordinarily complex scene and said investigators were dedicating available resources to determining what happened.

For the families of Rowan, Mary, Linsey, Alvin and Stella, however, the investigation can never undo the devastating loss. Five people who each had their own stories, relationships, memories and dreams are now gone.

Their names deserve to be remembered beyond the circumstances of their deaths.

Rowan Karla Kimsey will be remembered as a mother and daughter whose life came to a tragic end on the property she called home.

Mary Elizabeth Kimsey will be remembered as a mother and grandmother whose 85 years of life came to an unimaginable conclusion.

Linsey Mae Haraldsen will be remembered by those who loved her and by her close friendship with Stella.

Alvin Raymond Chu will be remembered as a young man whose life was shared with Linsey and whose future was tragically taken away.

Stella Jade Kimsey will be remembered as Mary’s granddaughter, Linsey’s best friend and a young woman whose life was cut short far too soon.

Benjamin Parker, identified by authorities as the suspected killer, will also remain part of the record of this tragedy. His death brought the investigation to a different stage, leaving authorities to reconstruct what happened and leaving the families of the victims to cope with the devastating consequences.

As investigators continue working to understand the full circumstances of this devastating case, the families and loved ones of the victims are left to grieve privately and begin the difficult process of healing.

There are no words that can adequately describe the pain of losing five loved ones in such a sudden and heartbreaking way. But in the days, months and years ahead, their memories will remain through photographs, stories, friendships and the lives they touched.
