TOWNVILLE, SC — Richard William Grubbs, a 68-year-old man from Seneca, has died following a tragic two-vehicle collision Wednesday morning, September 2, in Anderson County. His passing has left family members, friends, and those who knew him mourning the loss of a loved one whose life was suddenly taken in a devastating roadway crash.

According to Anderson County Coroner Greg Shore, Anderson County 911 received a call shortly after 8 a.m. regarding a serious collision at the intersection of Highway 243 and Jolly Road in Townville. Emergency crews were dispatched to the scene, where they discovered that one man was trapped inside his vehicle following the crash.

The victim was identified as Richard William Grubbs, 68, of Seneca. First responders worked at the scene to provide emergency medical care and rescue Grubbs from the vehicle. Because of the severity of his injuries, he was flown to Prisma Health Greenville Memorial Hospital for further treatment.

Sadly, despite the efforts of emergency responders and medical personnel, Grubbs died from his injuries shortly after arriving at the hospital.

A preliminary investigation indicates that Grubbs was turning onto Highway 243 from Jolly Road when his vehicle was struck by a box truck. The force of the collision resulted in multiple traumatic injuries, according to the Anderson County Coroner’s Office.

The Coroner’s Office determined that Grubbs’ death was accidental. The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation by the Anderson County Office of the Coroner and the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
