Thursday afternoon, September 10, 2026, became a heartbreaking day for the family, friends, and community of 17-year-old Grant Hale of Minerva, Ohio, whose life was tragically cut short in a devastating two-vehicle crash involving a commercial truck on U.S. Route 30 in Stark County.

The crash occurred at approximately 12:19 p.m. on westbound U.S. Route 30 near milepost 11 in Perry Township. According to the preliminary investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Grant was traveling eastbound in the left lane in a 2013 Ford Fusion when his vehicle traveled off the left side of the roadway. The Ford crossed the grassy median and entered the westbound lanes, where it collided with a 2018 Mack commercial truck traveling westbound in the right lane.

The force of the collision sent both vehicles off the north side of the highway and into a wooded area. Emergency crews rushed to the scene, but despite their efforts, Grant suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

At only 17 years old, Grant had so much life ahead of him. His future was filled with possibilities, dreams, hopes, and experiences that should have unfolded over many more years. Instead, his family and loved ones are now facing the unimaginable pain of saying goodbye far too soon.

The driver of the Mack truck, a 75-year-old Canton man, sustained minor injuries and was transported to Aultman Hospital in Canton for treatment.

As investigators continue working to determine exactly what caused Grant’s vehicle to leave the roadway and cross the median, many questions remain unanswered. The Ohio State Highway Patrol has not yet released a cause for the crash, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Beyond the official investigation is a grieving family left to cope with an irreplaceable loss. Grant will be remembered not by the circumstances of his final moments, but by the life he lived, the people he loved, and the memories he created.
