According to the Florence County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to East McIver Road after receiving a report of a shooting. When deputies arrived at the scene that afternoon, they discovered two individuals deceased.
Florence County Coroner Keith Von Lutcken identified the deceased as Darnissa Ford and Leon Ford II. Investigators are describing the incident as a murder-suicide.
The circumstances surrounding the tragedy remain under investigation, and authorities have not released additional information at this time.
For the families and loved ones of Darnissa and Leon, however, the investigation represents only one part of a much deeper and more painful loss. Two lives have ended, leaving behind people who must now face the difficult reality of saying goodbye.
Darnissa Ford, 39, and Leon Ford II, 36, will be remembered as more than the names included in an official report. They were people with families, friendships, memories and connections to others. Their sudden deaths have undoubtedly left an emptiness that words cannot easily describe.
When someone dies unexpectedly, memories often become the most precious things left behind. The conversations shared, the laughter, family gatherings, photographs, celebrations and everyday moments can take on a new meaning after a loved one is gone.
For those who knew Darnissa and Leon, those memories will remain a lasting part of their lives.
Grief does not follow a schedule. Some days may bring tears, while others may bring moments of laughter as loved ones remember something special about the people they lost. Every memory can become a reminder of the lives that were lived and the relationships that mattered.
During this difficult time, family members and friends may need one another more than ever. Compassion, patience and understanding can provide comfort when there are no words capable of easing the pain.
The Florence community is also being reminded that behind every tragic incident are real people and families whose lives have been changed forever. Respecting their grief and allowing them space to mourn is an important way to show support.
As authorities continue their investigation, those mourning Darnissa and Leon are left to focus on remembering them and honoring the lives they lived.
Their deaths may forever be connected to a tragic event, but their memories can be defined by so much more—the people they loved, the relationships they built and the moments they shared with those closest to them.
May their families find strength in each other during the difficult days ahead. May friends and loved ones surround them with compassion and support, and may cherished memories provide comfort during moments when the loss feels overwhelming.
🕊️ In loving memory of Darnissa Ford and Leon Ford II.
May they both rest peacefully, and may their memories continue to live on in the hearts of everyone who knew and loved them.
Gone too soon, but never forgotten. May their lives be remembered with dignity, compassion and love.
