Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Framingham Chief of Police Lester Baker have confirmed that an active investigation is underway following the deadly incident.

Just after 12:15 p.m. Thursday, Framingham Police received a 911 call from a residence on Waverly Street reporting an assault and an unresponsive woman. Officers rushed to the location, where they discovered Connolly inside the home. Despite the efforts at the scene, the 33-year-old woman was pronounced dead.

Authorities subsequently arrested 43-year-old Flavio Alcantra Dias in connection with the assault. Dias was arraigned Friday in Framingham District Court, where he pleaded not guilty to charges of Assault and Battery Causing Serious Bodily Injury and Possession of Ammunition Without an FID Card. He was ordered held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing scheduled for September 4.

According to details reported by Boston 25 News, Middlesex County Assistant District Attorney Thomas Brandt told the court that Dias called 911 shortly before 12:30 p.m. Thursday. Prosecutors said he spoke in Portuguese and reported that a homicide had occurred, claiming that he had killed a woman by mistake after strangling or suffocating her.

Brandt reportedly said Dias told dispatchers that he and Connolly were at her home on Waverly Street, had been using drugs and became involved in an argument after he wanted to have sex and she refused. Dias allegedly told authorities that he later fell asleep and discovered Connolly unresponsive after waking.

Police found Dias waiting outside the residence. Prosecutors said that officers’ observations at the scene were consistent with portions of the account provided during the emergency call. Connolly was found with injuries to her head and with what authorities described as a cord or fabric around her neck.

While an arrest has been made, the investigation remains active, and the allegations against Dias have not been proven in court.
