A heartbreaking loss has left family, friends and the Greenville community mourning after the sudden death of 37-year-old Brett Michael Whitney of Greenville, South Carolina, who was killed after being struck by a vehicle early Wednesday morning.

First responders were dispatched shortly after 4:30 a.m. on September 2, 2026, following reports of a pedestrian who had been struck at the intersection of South Pleasantburg Drive and Impact Drive in Greenville County.

Despite the response of emergency personnel, the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. The Greenville County Coroner’s Office later identified the victim as Brett Michael Whitney, 37.

According to the Coroner’s Office, Whitney suffered blunt force injuries as a result of the collision. His manner of death has been ruled an accident.
