Our hearts are heavy as we remember Benjamin Hedrick, 21, of Joplin, whose life was tragically cut short following a devastating motorcycle crash on the night of August 26, 2026. At just 21 years old, Benjamin had so much life ahead of him, so many moments yet to experience, and so many memories still waiting to be made. His passing has left a heartbreaking emptiness for everyone who knew and loved him.

On Wednesday evening, around 9:50 p.m., the Joplin Emergency Communications Center began receiving 911 calls reporting a serious two-vehicle crash in the 3300 block of Range Line Road. The collision involved a pickup truck and a motorcycle, bringing emergency crews rushing to the scene.

Joplin Police officers, members of the Joplin Fire Department, M.E.T.S. Ambulance, and Newton County Ambulance responded to the crash. When first responders arrived, they found Benjamin, the sole occupant and rider of the motorcycle, in critical condition. He was immediately transported to a local hospital, where medical personnel worked to save his life.

Sadly, despite those efforts, Benjamin later succumbed to the injuries he suffered in the collision.

According to the initial investigation, Benjamin had been traveling northbound on Range Line Road from 36th Street. At the same time, a pickup truck was attempting to make a left turn onto Range Line Road from a private drive in the 3300 block. As the pickup entered the roadway, the two vehicles collided.

The driver and passenger of the pickup truck were not reported injured.

Following the crash, the Joplin Police Department’s Major Crash team responded to the scene and began working to determine exactly what happened. The investigation remains open and active as authorities continue gathering information about the circumstances surrounding the collision. Benjamin’s next of kin have been notified.

But behind every crash investigation is a human life—a young person with dreams, family, friendships, memories, and people who cared deeply about him. Benjamin was more than a name in a police report. He was a son, a friend, a loved one, and a person whose presence mattered.

At only 21, his journey was far too short. There were undoubtedly places he still wanted to see, goals he still wanted to accomplish, and memories he still hoped to create. His loved ones are now left facing the unimaginable pain of having to say goodbye far sooner than anyone ever expected.

A sudden loss like this can leave behind questions, disbelief, and a silence that is difficult to put into words. One moment, life is moving forward as usual; the next, everything changes. For Benjamin’s family and friends, August 26 will forever be remembered as the night their lives were changed by an unbearable loss.
