CAMDEN, N.J. — With heavy hearts, the Camden community is mourning the tragic loss of 19-year-old Angel Saravia-Estrada, a Camden man who died after being struck by a vehicle during an early-morning pedestrian accident on Tuesday, September 1, 2026.
Angel’s life was suddenly cut short in a heartbreaking crash that occurred at approximately 12:51 a.m. in the area of westbound Admiral Wilson Boulevard and 16th Street. According to authorities, officers with the Camden County Police Department responded to the scene after receiving reports of a motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian who had entered the roadway and was struck by a vehicle.
When officers arrived, they discovered that the driver involved in the collision was an off-duty officer with the Camden County Police Department. Authorities said the driver remained at the scene following the crash.
An on-duty officer with the Delaware River Port Authority Police Department also stopped at the scene and attempted to provide aid to the injured pedestrian. Despite efforts to help him, Angel was transported to Cooper University Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased at approximately 1:17 a.m.
For Angel’s loved ones, friends and members of the Camden community, the news represents an unimaginable loss. At just 19 years old, Angel had his entire life ahead of him, with dreams yet to be fulfilled, memories yet to be made and moments that his family and friends will now have to hold onto in his absence.
The sudden nature of the tragedy makes the loss especially painful. A young life that should have continued to unfold was instead brought to an abrupt end in the early hours of a September morning. Those who knew Angel are left to grieve the memories they shared with him and to remember the person he was beyond the circumstances of his death.
A death at such a young age leaves an emptiness that cannot easily be filled. Families often remember not only the final moments of a loved one’s life but also the laughter, conversations, friendships, family moments and everyday experiences that made that person special. Angel’s loved ones will carry those memories forward as they cope with his passing.
The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation. The Camden County Prosecutor’s Office Crash Response Investigation Team is leading the investigation, and authorities have stated that the investigation remains active and ongoing. No further information was released at this time.
