Authorities are investigating the unrelated deaths of 34-year-old Ceaira Cook of Akron and 24-year-old Raheem Heard of Akron, following two separate incidents reported Friday in Summit County. One investigation involves a fatal workplace accident at Summa Health Barberton Hospital, while the other involves a homicide investigation after a body was recovered from Summit Lake.

The Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office identified Cook as the Summa Health employee who died following an accident in Barberton.

Investigators say Cook was leaving work at Summa Health Barberton Hospital when she was struck by a linen truck that was backing up in a docking area. She was transported to the hospital’s emergency department for treatment but later died from the injuries she sustained.

The incident has prompted an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the workplace accident. Authorities are working to establish the sequence of events leading up to the collision and determine how the incident occurred.

In a separate investigation in Akron, authorities identified the deceased man recovered from Summit Lake as Raheem Heard, 24, of Akron.

According to investigators, a fisherman spotted a body from a dock at Summit Lake Friday evening and contacted authorities. Akron police officers and fire crews responded to the area and located the body in the lake.

Heard was recovered from the water and pronounced dead at the scene. The Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office determined that he died as a result of multiple stab wounds, and authorities are investigating his death as a homicide.

Investigators continue to work to determine the circumstances surrounding Heard’s death, including what led to the stabbing and whether anyone else was involved. Authorities have not indicated that the two deaths are connected, and the incidents are being investigated separately.
