Authorities are investigating the unrelated deaths of 34-year-old Ceaira Cook of Akron and 24-year-old Raheem Heard of Akron, following two separate incidents reported Friday in Summit County. One case involves a fatal workplace accident at Summa Health Barberton Hospital, while the other is being investigated as a homicide after a body was recovered from Summit Lake.
The Summit County Medical Examinerโs Office identified Cook as the Summa Health employee who died following a workplace accident in Barberton. Investigators say Cook was leaving work at Summa Health Barberton Hospital when she was struck by a linen truck backing up in a docking area.
Cook was taken to the hospitalโs emergency department for treatment. Despite medical efforts, she later died from the injuries she sustained. Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident and how the collision occurred.
In a separate incident in Akron, a fisherman discovered a body in Summit Lake Friday evening. According to authorities, the fisherman spotted the body from a dock and contacted emergency services.
Akron police officers and fire crews responded to the lake and recovered the body from the water. The deceased was identified as Raheem Heard, 24, of Akron. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Summit County Medical Examinerโs Office determined that Heard died from multiple stab wounds. His death is being investigated as a homicide, and detectives are continuing to gather evidence and work to determine what happened before his death.
Authorities have not indicated that the two deaths are connected. The cases are being investigated separately, with officials working to establish the complete circumstances surrounding each incident.
Both investigations remain active. Authorities are asking anyone who may have information relevant to either case to contact investigators. Further details may be released as the investigations progress.
