A devastating Thursday evening crash in Choctaw has claimed the life of 25-year-old Kaitie Tabor and left six children hospitalized, authorities confirmed.
The fatal single-vehicle collision happened shortly after 7 p.m. on September 3 along NE 23rd Street near McDonald Road. What happened during those moments remains under investigation, as police work to determine the circumstances that led to the serious wreck.
According to authorities, Tabor and a 3-month-old infant who was riding in a car seat were both ejected from the vehicle during the crash. Tabor suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased following the collision.
Six children were reportedly inside the vehicle when the crash occurred. Their ages range from just 3 months to 7 years old. Emergency crews transported all six children to a local hospital, where they received medical care following the traumatic incident.
Choctaw Police Chief Kelly Marshall provided an encouraging update, confirming that all six children are currently listed in stable condition.
โWe understand all children are stable,โ Marshall said.
While the childrenโs stable condition offers some reassurance, the crash has left many questions unanswered. Investigators are now working to piece together what happened before the vehicle crashed.
Police plan to serve a search warrant to obtain data from the vehicleโs recorder. Investigators believe information stored within the vehicle may help provide important clues about its operation and the events immediately preceding the collision.
Authorities have not yet announced what factors may have contributed to the crash, and the investigation remains ongoing.
The tragic incident has deeply affected those connected to the victims, particularly as the community learns more about the circumstances surrounding the collision. Officials are continuing to gather evidence and determine the exact cause.
As the investigation continues, the six children remain under medical care. Their stable condition is a positive development following such a frightening crash.
Further information is expected as investigators continue their work.
