The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (Iowa DNR) has identified the man who tragically lost his life following a boating collision on West Lake Okoboji over the weekend.
Authorities confirmed that 64-year-old Zhong Jie Teng of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, died from injuries he sustained in the crash, which occurred on Sunday, August 2. The incident remains under investigation as officials continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the collision.
According to the Iowa DNR, Teng was traveling aboard a 19-foot Triton fishing boat along with five minors near Lime Kiln Point when the vessel collided with a Cobalt cabin cruiser operated by 49-year-old Brian Rohlfsen of Spirit Lake, Iowa.
Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene, and Teng was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he later succumbed to his injuries.
The five minors who were aboard the fishing boat also suffered injuries in the collision. Authorities previously reported that three of the children sustained serious injuries, while two others suffered minor injuries. At this time, officials have not released any updated information regarding their medical conditions or recovery.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported among the occupants of the cabin cruiser involved in the collision.
