With profound sadness, we share the passing of Kenneth Massey, 53, who lost his life in a tragic traffic collision in Lubbock on Friday morning.
According to an update released by the Lubbock Police Department, officers responded to a report of a collision with injuries at the intersection of East 34th Street and MLK Jr. Boulevard at approximately 7:18 a.m. on Friday. The crash involved a semi-truck and a pickup truck.
When first responders arrived at the scene, they found that the driver and sole occupant of the pickup truck, Kenneth Massey, had sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the semi-truck, identified as 29-year-old Dameon Marmolejo, was not injured.
According to the initial investigation by LPD’s Major Crash Investigation Unit, Massey was traveling north in the 3400 block of MLK Jr. Boulevard before stopping at a stop sign at East 34th Street. Marmolejo was traveling east in the 1700 block of East 34th Street. Both vehicles collided at the intersection, and the impact caused Massey to be ejected from his pickup.
The investigation is still ongoing as authorities work to determine the full circumstances surrounding this heartbreaking crash.
The sudden loss of Kenneth at 53 has left a void in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. He was more than a name in a news release โ he was a son, a friend, a neighbor, a co-worker, and a valued member of the Lubbock community. A life lived for over five decades, full of memories, stories, laughter, and love, ended far too soon on a Friday morning that started like any other.
